Reach More Customers
Along with giving you peace of mind, passing this self-test can help you target more customers through the Application Compatibility Toolkit (ACT).

The ACT is a lifecycle management tool that assists in managing overall application portfolios, reducing the cost and time involved in resolving application compatibility issues. It lists all the solutions that have achieved the Works with Windows Vista certification.

Many Microsoft partners and customers are already using this toolkit, with 375,000 downloads in the United States since November 2006.
1. Get Windows Vista
If you are an MSDN subscriber, find out how you can download the latest versions of the Windows Vista operating system. If you are a Microsoft Gold or Certified Partner, or a member of the Empower initiative, you will have full MSDN membership.

Find out more about Empower. If you would like to subscribe to MSDN separately, please go to the MSDN site.
2. Access Technical Guidance
Use the following tools to help ensure your application is compatible:
Windows Vista Jumpstart Toolkit
Application Compatibility Toolkit
Works with Windows Vista Logo Specification
3. Submit Application to Winqual
  • Get Microsoft Product Identification Tool
Use the Microsoft Product Identification Tool to generate a unique signature Microsoft can use to identify your application. This signature is required to complete the submission process on Winqual.
  • Create Winqual account
Obtain a VeriSign Organizational Certificate. This will help to ensure that we receive the right information about your application. This certificate is available at a discounted price of U.S.$99. Purchase Organizational Certificate. Once you have this, go ahead and create a Winqual account.
  • Create new submission
Go to the Winqual site and create a new “Works with Windows Vista” logo submission using your Winqual account.
  • 4. Submit Compatibility Status
Complete the Windows Vista Application Compatibility Questionnaire on Winqual. This information will be used to communicate your application’s compatibility status to Microsoft customers through the Windows Vista Upgrade Advisor and the Microsoft Application Compatibility Toolkit (ACT).

The Windows Vista Upgrade Advisor tool informs customers if their computers and applications are ready for Windows Vista.

The ACT is a software tool that helps enterprise customers to establish if their current applications can run on Windows Vista, and plan their deployment accordingly.
    5. Get the Logo
Sign the logo license agreement, which you can find on the Winqual site. You can then download the Works with Windows Vista logo artwork from the Winqual site.
